In this picture you can see the sign for the lumber company which would have employed
the people in this town. Lumber was a huge business during 1870 in the northwest, lumber from towns like this would have been used across the united states, thanks to the innovation of railroads. The picture bellow shows a lumber companies building being built. Town would usually already be around these areas or towns would spring up around them.

This is the interior of a house. At this time manufactured goods would be hard to come by but rarely things would be brought over, as you can see by the stove. Almost everything else was made locally until about 20 years later in 1890 when these markets would start to be exploited. The image under both of my interiors is an interior from a fake frontier village, it is still an accurate depiction of a home at this time.
